TASK 3 / Type design and communication
Research
For my research I looked at 4 fonts that i found intresting from the ten fonts that Vinod sir gave us. I took letters from each font and studies how the letters are formed.
Sketching
Markers I used - Fig 1.2 |
The markers I used for this task are a 509A artline marker, green Stabilo highlighter and an Artline 100 marker.
I first began by making 3 sketches of fonts by using the 3 different markers.
I liked how the Stabilo highlighter looked more compared to the other markers. I decided to explore its properties further.I ended up liking the Serifa styled font the most.
More font sketches - Fig 1.4 (11.21.2023) |
Final physical sketch - Fig 1.5 (11,21,2023) |
Digital sketches - Fig 1.6 (11.21.2023) |
Digitization
For the construction of the font in illustrator I mostly used the stroke tool. I based the design heavily on the Serifa font. I trie to make sure that all the letters were as consistant as possible. I used different letters to construct other letters. For example with the letters 'C' and 'G', I can use the body of 'C' to easily contruct the letter 'G'.
Using the 'C' to make a 'G' - Fig 1.7 (11.28.2023) |
Fontlab
I imported all my letters from illustrator to fontalb and kerned the letters. I then exported the font and installed it to my computer. I named the font Yerif.
Poster
Due to the limited words in the poster i found it quite hard to come up with a good phrase. I ended up coming up with the idea of someone staring at a light and being excited by how bright it is.
